March is Women’s History Month, and what is the best way to celebrate the countless contributions and accomplishments of women throughout history than to celebrate and support women-owned businesses!
To support women-owned businesses means you can shop, spread the word, attend networking events, leave positive business reviews, and even partner with women-owned businesses.
There are four reasons why it is essential to engage with women-owned businesses:
1. Let us boost the economy to generate revenue and create jobs.
According to the National Women’s Business Council’s 2023 Annual report, it is projected that “14 million women-owned businesses make up 39.1 percent of all U.S. businesses—a 13.6 percent increase from 2019 to 2023— and they are coming out of the pandemic stronger than the 2008 financial crisis.” (https://www.nwbc.gov/annual-reports/2023/BytheNumbers.html)
2. Promote diversity and innovation.
To support women-owned businesses means you desire to lead the economy to be more vibrant and dynamic. Bringing innovative ideas and diverse perspectives to the table blooms a higher level of innovative and creative products and services.
3. Be present and shop locally.
Women often look to their local communities for support and to address their immediate needs. Being present and local signifies that we are strengthening the local economy and creating a lasting impact.
4. Help lessen the gender gap.
There is still a barrier in the business world as it applies to women-led and owned companies. This situation includes access to funding and resources. Women are branching out of the home to balance their family and work responsibilities to increase their household income. By supporting a women-owned business, we create a more equitable nation. Let us commit to supporting women-owned businesses and celebrating Women’s History Month in March. Doing so promotes diversity and inclusion, supports local communities, lessens the gender gap, and increases the world’s revenue stream.
